National Geographic Society Announces $5M Investment to Inspire and Empower the Next Generation of Leaders and Planetary Stewards

In response to the call from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to join the mission of investing in jobs, youth, and resilient cities and communities through nature, the National Geographic Society is today announcing a $5 million investment over five years to inspire and empower the next generation of informed leaders and passionate stewards of our planet.

National Geographic Society CEO Jill Tiefenthaler released the following statement:

“The National Geographic Society is proud to answer the call from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to ‘Invest in Nature’ by making a $5 million investment to inspire and empower the next generation of informed leaders and passionate planetary stewards. Over the next five years, we will scale up the Slingshot Challenge — launched with funding by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation — our externship program with The Nature Conservancy, and our Explorer-led programs. This investment will provide young people in the U.S. and around the world with opportunities to build skills and use their voices and ingenuity to create meaningful, nature-based solutions to address the urgent environmental and global challenges of our time.”
