Everest: Headed for the Summit

Mountaineer Peter Whittaker—nephew of Jim Whittaker, the first American to summit Everest—has reached Camp 4 on the peak’s South Col with teammate Ed Viesturs, veteran of numerous high mountain ascents and the first individual to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter (26,247-foot) peaks without bottled oxygen.
