In far too many places in the U.S. and around the globe, Black scientists, educators, storytellers, and explorers face racism and discrimination.
The National Geographic Society is committed to work with and to elevate and support Black Explorers, educators, and storytellers; and pursuing systemic change within our organization to foster a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future.
Silence is not an option.
Here are some actions we’re committed to taking:
- Our Education team is creating resources for educators, and ensuring that the language we use in our educational materials is inclusive, and elevating the voices of Black educators and youth.
- We will do more to develop and support a diverse community of grantees and educators. We remain committed to identifying, supporting and elevating the work and voices of Black Explorers, educators and storytellers.
- We will actively seek out partnerships with organizations — including those based in Washington, D.C. — that can assist us with our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and also help us achieve our mission.
- Internally, we will provide additional resources to accelerate the implementation of a strategic plan created by our Diversity and Inclusion Council.
There is even more we can and should do. Know that our actions will not stop here.
